About the Spark Alliance

What is the Spark Alliance?

The Spark Alliance is a unique strategic partnership between leading European fast-charging companies Atlante, Electra, Fastned and IONITY.

These 4 founding members have joined forces to create Europe’s largest and most reliable EV charging network, launching with over 1,700 locations offering over 11,000 charging points - all offering the gold standard in fast charging.

The Spark Alliance has been founded to make charging a quicker, simpler and more seamless experience. That’s why the entire Spark Alliance network is fast-charging only and available to any EV driver using any member app.

Why have Atlante, Electra, Fastned and IONITY combined forces?

Atlante, Electra, Fastned and IONITY are all ‘pure-player’ charging companies: charging electric cars is each company’s core business. Together we’ve powered millions of journeys across Europe.

The Spark Alliance combines our expertise to create a vast network of the best quality EV charging stations available: bringing comfort to drivers, removing barriers to EV adoption, and accelerating the electric transition across Europe.

To complete the transition to electric mobility, drivers need confidence that they will be able to charge quickly and easily, wherever they are. The vision for the Spark Alliance is to deliver this confidence and power the EV charging industry forward.

What is the objective of the Spark Alliance?

The Spark Alliance aims to raise the bar for EV charging in Europe by simplifying the charging experience, raising quality standards, and removing obstacles to enable more people to switch to electric mobility.

Our vision is one interoperable and accessible network across Europe, offering the best charging experience and giving confidence to every driver, regardless of which EV they drive or which member company they choose to charge with.

Electric driving is now a reality, and the charging market has expanded greatly. In this crowded market, drivers need an easy way to find the most reliable and hassle-free charging stations, on a network allowing them to confidently drive electric across all of Europe. The objective of the Spark Alliance is to answer these needs.

When will the features be
available?

Spark Alliance features will become available to drivers in phases. The first features went live in July 2025 when Spark Alliance stations became visible in Atlante, Electra, Fastned and IONITY apps.

All four members are working together towards further app integration and a more seamless charging experience. More features are expected during 2025 - monitor this website and our LinkedIn page for further news.

Will my electric car be able to charge at a Spark Alliance station?

Every brand and model of electric vehicle can charge at any Spark Alliance station. Compatibility information can be found in each member app.

Do I need to download a Spark Alliance app?

There’s no new app - all Spark Alliance features will be available within existing member apps. You’ll be able to use your Atlante, Electra, Fastned or IONITY app to find any Spark Alliance station and charge seamlessly once you get there.

Will I see Spark Alliance charging stations on the roads?

The Spark Alliance brings together four companies to combine their networks and commit to achieving the best standards in EV charging. Each company will continue to operate its own stations independently.

This means you won’t see standalone Spark Alliance stations - because all members guarantee fast, reliable and accessible charging at all their locations. Drivers can expect these standards at any Atlante, Electra, Fastned or IONITY station.

Does the Spark Alliance affect the price of charging?

The Spark Alliance does not affect the price of charging. Prices will continue to be set independently by each member.

I have a subscription with a Spark Alliance member company - will my discount apply at all Spark Alliance stations?

Subscriptions currently apply only when charging with the member issuing the subscription, and will not apply when charging with other members. As the Spark Alliance collaboration grows, we will listen to the needs of EV drivers and may explore the possibility of such features in the future.

What’s coming next?

Can more members join the Spark Alliance?

We welcome interest from partners who can contribute to our objective of raising the bar for EV charging in Europe.

Atlante, Electra, Fastned and IONITY together form a vast and well-dispersed network allowing seamless EV travel across Europe. Each member is committed to upholding the highest standards of customer satisfaction and charging reliability.

Where else can I find the Spark Alliance?

We are working hard to bring the Spark Alliance to as many drivers as possible, and we aim to partner with map and navigation platforms to do this.

Chargetrip has already introduced the Spark Alliance into its GO platform, making it easier for their users to find our stations. We hope to announce further partnerships in the near future.

Will there be a Spark Alliance loyalty scheme?

There is currently no Spark Alliance Loyalty scheme. The Spark Alliance members may explore such a feature in the future.

Are the four member companies planning to merge together?

No - each member company will continue to operate and compete independently. The Spark Alliance is a strategic partnership between four separate and competing companies to improve standards for the EV charging industry and accelerate the transition to electric mobility across Europe.
